I’m pretty lucky with my skin during the summer but once Autumn comes around and the weather turns, things change. It becomes dry and irritated with red patches that can turn into eczema if I’m not careful. Today I’m sharing with you the skincare products I’m using at the moment to help keep my skin happy and nourished.
I like to use a gentle cleanser in the morning and evening to prep my skin for moisturiser. My current squeeze is Olay Nourishing Cleansing Balm. I love this cleanser! It leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated, not tight at all.
If I have makeup to remove I do an additional cleanse with an oil, currently this Muji one I brought back from Japan. It does a great job of removing makeup gently. I’ll be on the hunt for a replacement soon though, as I don’t think it’s available over here. I massage the oil into my skin to dissolve as much makeup as I can and then wipe it away with a clean, damp face cloth.
Next I remove what’s left of my makeup with Bioderma Sebium H20 micellar water. This is my favourite cleanser to keep in my kit for models. It’s designed for more oily skin than mine but I find it gentle enough even in winter to remove the last traces of makeup.
My go to exfoliator for years has been Dermalogica’s Microfoliant. It got me through a bad bout of hormonal acne a few years ago and I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s definitely something I use more in the winter when my eczema starts to flare up. Microfoliant is a non-abrasive exfoliator in powder form. You add water to create a paste before massaging it into your skin. I love that it contains salicylic acid to keep your pores dirt free. It’s great for gently removing the dry, flaky patches I’m prone to at this time of year.
One product I’m trying for the first time is Olay Ultimate Eye Cream. I love their moisturiser so much an my eye area is seriously dehydrated at the moment so I thought I’d give it a whirl. I apply it before my moisturiser à la Caroline Hirons to make sure it’s properly absorbed.
Let’s move onto serums! I’m currently trying out Kate McIver’s Secret Weapon serum, which came highly recommended by a friend. It looks and feels beautiful! I’ve been using it specifically to target the area around my nose and mouth, which is where my skin starts to become red and itchy this time of year. So far it’s doing a stellar job of calming down the inflammation and keeping my eczema at bay.
Finally, I finish with Olay Total Effects Day moisturiser. I need a rich moisturiser in the winter and I’ve used this for years because it’s easy to pick up in the drugstore and it’s full niacinamide and antioxidants. I find it’s a great base for makeup too and keeps my skin feeling hydrated all day.
